Our story

The Urban Commune is a collaboration between a group of artists who believe that
art and creativity is good for the soul.

Our aim is to create a safe space for people to be creative whilst taking care of their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing; whether that be through art, painting, networking, music or just being with other likeminded beings.

Who We Are

from l-r Anthony, Steve, Raychel, Lisa, Debbie, Gavin, Sam

In August 2022 a group of artists got together to create The Urban Commune, offering a safe space for teens and adults, encouraging better emotional and mental wellbeing through creativity.

In that time we have been finalists in The Yorkshire Choice Awards and been made homeless. Throughout the summer of 2023 we led a nomadic lifestyle, but now we will be offering workshops and events at our new venue in Pontefract.

We need more volunteers -email info@theurbancommune.co.uk if you'd like to be involved.

This is a community and everyone is welcome to join us to share strengths, passion and experience.

Please note:

  • Our aim is to increase wellbeing through creative community connection and The Urban Commune is not a mental health support project.
  • Due to the nature of the space, The Urban Commune is not suitable for young children - creatives aged 10+ are welcome to attend with a responsible adult who must remain with them at all times.
